| GENERAL Beck Print groups jobs into 3 categories: FINISHED, READY and UNFINISHED. A FINISHED job is submitted with each individual page printed to a postscript file using our printer driver (which we will supply). A READY job is one in which the pages, text and images have all been set in the application but the pages have not been printed to file. An UNFINISHED job is one in which all materials (image files or photos, text file or hard copy, and general page layout) have been gathered but have not been placed into any application. Applications Quark Express (up to v. 4), Freehand, PageMaker, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator on either MAC or PC platform. Others for UNFINISHED jobs by special arrangement. Page Specifications CMYK Color Space only Bleed: 18 pt DPI for images: 300 dpi effective resolution LPI: 133 Fonts: Postscript only (TrueType will be accepted only for UNFINISHED JOB) Photos and Images: tiff (Jpeg will be accepted only for UNFINISHED JOB) Digital Photos Due to the wide variety in digital cameras, the following is only a general recomendation for submitting images from a digital camera. Please email for specific recomendations for specific cameras. If the images are for a FINISHED or READY job: all images must be in tiff format using the CMYK color mode. This will require conversion from their original jpg format, which uses RGB color mode. We recommend using Adobe Photoshop to convert the format and color mode. For quality purposes, the effective resolution of the image needs to be at least 266 dpi. In Photoshop, resampling should be avoided whenever possible and should certainly not be used to increase the resolution of the image. If the images are for an UNFINISHED job: original native files must be sent; laser prints or reprints of images are not acceptable. Photos For UNFINISHED job only: Color glossy prints are requested. For all photos, submit a size that will require no more than 125% enlargement in the finished product. Instant print photos are discouraged because of the inconsistent quality. Laser or "photo print" reprints of photos are not acceptable. All photos must be clearly labeled on the page with the page number and location on which they belong. Photos will not be returned. If photos are sent on a disk, they must be tiff files in CMYK mode. Fonts All Fonts for FINISHED and READY jobs must be Postscript fonts. For UNFINISHED jobs, TrueType fonts can be used but there is not guarantee that finished product will exactly match the submitted job. Postscript fonts are necessary because the machines that make the plates and film used on the presses are built on a Postscript system. TrueType fonts need to be converted by a Postscript RIP, and this results in mis-shapen characters and text reflow. File Submission For a FINISHED job, simply print each page to a postscript file using the driver and instructions that we will provide. Include a color laser proof of your job for color matching and proofing purposes. For a READY job, submit (on CD, JAZ or Zip disk, or by uploading to our ftp site using a username and password we will provide) ALL completed pages in their native application. Include for each page a folder containing the images on that page and a folder containing the fonts on that page. Also include a color laser proof of each page for color matching and proofing purposes. ALL FONTS AND ALL IMAGES MUST BE INCLUDED.
